Alfred John DaPrato Jr., lovingly known as Al, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi, surrounded by loved ones after fighting a great fight for a year. He was born on August 3, 1947, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Al honorably served his country directly out of high school, a reflection of the steady character and commitment that marked his life. He went on to spend more than 30 years in the casino business and also worked in banking. Throughout his life, he was known as someone who was easy to get along with, a man whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and lightness to those around him.
A faithful Catholic, Al lived with a deep love for simple joys and the people closest to him. He loved the sun, the beach, and swimming in the ocean. He enjoyed watching sports, travelling, and even the fun of slot machines. He loved being outside, took great pride in caring for his yard and his dogs, and was known as a clean freak who liked things organized. Above all, he loved having fun with family, and his greatest pride was found in his children, his grandchildren, and the time he spent with them.
Those who knew Al will remember a man who was hilarious, goofy, and always ready with a joke. He was always playing around, bringing smiles to others with his humor and warm spirit. So many will remember him as simply the kind of person with whom it was easy to be, and as someone whose goodness left a lasting impression.
Al is survived by his children, Matthew DaPrato, Adam DaPrato, Alfred DaPrato III, Christina Andrews, Jennifer Maldonado, and Lauren Rowell. He is also survived by Madeline DaPrato, and by his daughter-in-law Jennifer DaPrato, daughter-in-law Brenda DaPrato, and son-in-law Taylor Rowell. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Aubrey, Luke, Hensleigh, Maeleigh, Hankston, Jayson, Jessica, Ben, JR, Maddie, Vinny, Dakota, Lincoln, Emily, Brooklyn, and Johnathan. He is also survived by his sister, Joanne Dilworth; his twin brother, John DaPrato; and his sister-in-law, Connie DaPrato.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred DaPrato Sr.; his mother, Elizabeth DaPrato; his sons-in-law, Ricky Andrews and Humberto Maldonado; and his grandchild, Allisa.
Al’s life was rooted in family, laughter, loyalty, and love. He treasured time together more than anything, and the memories he created with those he loved will continue to be held close. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
