Charles was a proud Vietnam veteran who dedicated himself to serving his country. After his military service, he pursued an education at the University of Colorado, where his passion for football not only shaped his character but also became a testament to his spirit of determination and teamwork.

For 54 wonderful years, he shared his life with his beloved wife, Nancy Bernard. Together, they created a beautiful tapestry of experiences, often found on the dance floor or enjoying nature's serenity while fishing with his sons. Charles was never one to shy away from conversation; he was outgoing and had a gift for striking up a chat with anyone he met, turning strangers into friends through his genuine affection and interest in their lives.

As a father, Charles took immense pride in his children, David, Billy, and Chris, nurturing them with love and guidance that will forever echo in their hearts. His role as a grandfather brought him even greater joy, surrounded by Andrew, Abby, Ethan, and Mary Sofia. The sparkle in his eyes when he shared stories of his adventures with them and the laughter they created together will remain etched in their memories. His proudest accomplishments extended beyond his military and athletic achievements; they lay firmly within the love he had for his family.

Charles is survived by his loving family: his dear spouse Nancy Bernard, his sons David Bernard, Billy Bernard, and Chris Bernard, his grandchildren Andrew Bernard, Abby Bernard, Ethan Bernard, and Mary Sofia Bernard, as well as his nephew Chaz Tedesco. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Etta Bernard, and siblings Henry and Ann.

A Christian at heart, Charles's faith guided his path and anchored him through life’s highs and lows. Those who knew him will remember him not just for his hobbies—dancing, fishing, and being outdoors—but for the remarkable person he was: a loving family man who filled every moment with kindness and warmth. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his beloved family and friends.
