Don Mahaffey, a beloved husband, father, and esteemed member of the community, passed away peacefully at home in Southaven, MS, on May 19, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on July 11, 1936, in Chattanooga, TN, Don lived a life full of dedication, love, and service to others.
Don had a distinguished career with the Postal Service, beginning as a clerk in Chattanooga, TN then advancing to the Inspection in Memphis, TN and ultimately rising to the role of Postmaster in Marked Tree and West Helena, Arkansas. His commitment to his work earned him the respect of his colleagues and the appreciation of those he served.
An avid enthusiast of square dancing and bowling, Don was a well-known Square Dance Caller in his community, where he shared not only his passion for dance but also the joy of bringing people together. His personality shone brightly; he was known as a kind and generous soul, often putting the needs of others before his own. Family was always a priority for him, and he cherished the unconditional love he fostered within his circle.
Don's proudest accomplishments include a successful postal career, celebrating 68 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Doris Mahaffey, and raising a devoted family, including his daughter, Donna Mahaffey, along with a host of nieces and nephews who adored him.
A Christian of the Baptist faith and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Don was deeply rooted in his beliefs and values, which guided him throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Willie Mae; his son, David; and his siblings, Frances Irene Richmond, Robbie Canna Beeson (Bobbie), Dorothy Kathleen Arnold (Dot), Aline Mae Yeomon, Jewell Ruth Guice, and Marvin Ezra Mahaffey (Bud) and Alma Jean Dlooch.
Visitation will be held at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Southaven, MS, on May 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow, starting at 11:00 AM, concluding with a burial at 11:30 AM.
Don Mahaffey leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew him. His spirit will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
