Georgie P. Riles

July 27, 1934 — May 17, 2026

Georgie P. Riles, lovingly known as Polly and most reverently called Grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi, at the age of 91. Born on July 27, 1934, in Louisville, Mississippi, Polly’s life reflected the quiet strength of her generation — one built on faith, resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to family. Raised as the daughter of sharecroppers George and Frances Palmer, she carried the lessons of hard work, humility, and perseverance with her throughout her life. A proud graduate of Southside High School in Memphis, Tennessee, Class of 1952, Polly believed deeply in dignity, discipline, and carrying oneself with grace. She often said she was “blessed,” and those who knew her would agree. Even through hardship and loss, she remained steady in her faith and steadfast in her love for others. To know Polly was to know kindness, elegance, and quiet endurance. She loved beautiful things, treasured tradition, and took immense pride in being a lady. More than anything, she loved being “Grandmother,” a title she wore with joy and honor. Her home, presence, and wisdom became a place of comfort and constancy for generations of family who adored her. Her faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her life. She was deeply devoted to her Savior and lived her beliefs daily — not loudly, but faithfully. Her life was a reflection of service, grace, forgiveness, and unconditional love. Polly found joy in simple but meaningful things: her family and friendships, her church family, her book club, the fellowship of the Red Hat Society, and conversations shared around tables filled with laughter and stories. She carried herself with quiet confidence and strength that inspired everyone around her.Though she endured profound loss in her lifetime, including the deaths of beloved sons Jimmy and Joey Riles and grandson Nathan Riles, she continued forward with courage and faith, always placing family first and never allowing bitterness to define her spirit. She is survived by her beloved son Steven L. Riles and his wife Jackie; cherished grandchildren Ally Northcutt (Mac), Steven K. Riles (Savannah), Emily Riles, and John Riles (Ashley); and treasured great-grandchildren Xander, James, Cambree, Ainsley, Ashlynn, Anna Kate, Lane, Cooper, and Bella, all of whom will proudly carry her love and legacy forward. She is also survived by her dear siblings Alice Pollard, Glinda McKinney, and Dennis Palmer (Brenda), and lovingly remembered by her lifelong best friend, Ann Owen. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Frances Palmer; her brother Dub Palmer; sons Jimmy and Joey Riles; and grandson Nathan Riles.Visitation will be held on May 21, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Gracewood Baptist Church, followed immediately by funeral services from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. A graveside service will follow at Blocker Cemetery beginning at 2:30 PM.Georgie’s legacy is one of faith, grace, strength, and unconditional love. She was the kind of woman who made people feel safe, welcomed, and deeply cared for. Though her family’s hearts are broken, they find peace in knowing she is finally home with the Lord she faithfully served all her life.
