Gussie Loudeen Smith, born on September 13, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, in Southaven, Mississippi. Her life was a testament to kindness, love, and devotion to family and faith.
Gussie retired after many years of dedicated service as an office administrator at Crye-Leike Realtors. She took immense pride in her career, and it was evident that she brought the same spirit of dedication to all aspects of her life. Her professional accomplishments were matched by her personal achievements, most notably her role as a mother and grandmother, which she cherished deeply.
A member of Clearview Baptist Church since its inception, Gussie was an unwavering presence at church services until her health no longer allowed her to attend. She possessed a sweet demeanor and a kind-hearted nature, always greeting others with a smile and care that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Gussie's hobbies reflected her adventurous spirit. She enjoyed going on road trips with her best friends, exploring different places across the country with great enthusiasm. Many memories were created as they traveled to see the lighthouses along the East Coast and numerous destinations out West, including delightful cruises. Gussie also had a fondness for collecting rabbits, a hobby that brought her joy throughout her life.
Her grandchildren, Steven Smith and Stephanie Hall (William), were sources of immense pride. Gussie loved spending quality time with them, engaging in cherished activities such as feeding ducks at the park, visiting the zoo, and enjoying delicious meals at Ci-Ci's Pizza. Sundays were particularly special, as they were filled with family visitations that solidified her cherished family bonds.
Gussie is survived by her son, James Smith, along with her beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Doshie Mae (Riley) Bond; her brother, Eddie Bond; and her sister, Barbara Jean Greenlee.
For those who wish to pay their respects, visitation will be held on July 3, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home, located at 290 Goodman Road East, Southaven, MS 38671, followed by a funeral service starting at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will conclude the day’s events at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home at 3:00 PM.
Gussie Loudeen Smith will be remembered for her unwavering love, ceaseless kindness, and the countless memories she created with those she treasured the most. Her legacy of love will continue to shine through her family and friends as they carry her memory in their hearts.
