James Michael Everett, known to many as Michael, passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2026, after a prolonged illness. He was born on October 9, 1967, in Marks, Mississippi.
Michael will be remembered as a hardworking man who took pride in what he did. He was especially proud of his daughters, and they remained one of the greatest joys of his life. He also found deep satisfaction in the work he did on houses, loving every opportunity to show off what his hands had accomplished. Those who knew him will remember his sense of humor, his belief that he was always funny, and the way that spirit brought personality and warmth to everyday moments.
He enjoyed the things that made life feel familiar and joyful. Michael loved football, and his devotion to the New Orleans Saints was a big part of who he was. He also enjoyed collecting memorabilia and was known for his love of Coca-Cola. These simple but memorable passions helped paint the picture of a man whose interests were easy to recognize and whose presence was easy to love.
He was also cherished in the workplace, where he was loved and treated like family by his coworkers and by his boss, Fadel. That bond speaks to the kind of man he was—someone whose hard work and steady presence left a lasting impression on the people around him.
Michael is survived by his daughters, Jessica Sims and Brittney Everett, who were his proudest accomplishment and a lasting reflection of his love. He is also survived by his sisters, Suzanne Pantone, Shelia Helton, and Tammy Winger, and by his brother, Ty Everett. He leaves behind his nieces Abigail Helton, Sarah Helton, and Carrie Everett; his nephews Hunter, Luke, Ethan Helton, Mark Spainhour, and Dustin Winger; and his cousin, Angela Smith. He also leaves behind a host of other family and friends, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews who will carry his memory forward with love.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye, and his father, Paul; by his brother, Raymond; by his cousin, Peggy; and by his aunt Bonnie and uncle JR.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on September 14, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks, 290 Goodman Rd. East, Southaven, Mississippi 38671. A funeral service will follow there from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A graveside service will then be held from 3:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 290 Goodman Road East, Southaven, Mississippi 38671.
Michael’s life was marked by devotion to family, pride in his work, and the everyday loves that made him unmistakably himself. He will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
