James Emy Hawkins Sr.

Jul 25, 1943 — Jul 14, 2026

Horn Lake

With both sorrow and gratitude, we share the passing of James Emy Hawkins Sr., lovingly known as Jimmy, who departed this life on July 14, 2026, in Horn Lake, Mississippi, after a long battle, surrounded by family. Born on July 25, 1943, in Holland, Missouri, Jimmy’s 82 years were marked by laughter, kindness, family, and a legacy of warmth that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Jimmy’s life story was crafted through decades of hard work, caring deeply for his family, and savoring the small joys that each day offered. He started his journey as a Manager with SH Kress, displaying the work ethic and leadership that became hallmarks of his career. Jimmy later went on to own Cotton Patch in Steele, Missouri—a venture that gave him pride and fostered many friendships. He ended his professional career at Infiniti of Memphis, where his cheerful demeanor and sharp wit left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Hawkins, who stood by his side through all of life’s seasons. His greatest pride—his boys—remain to cherish his memory: James E. Hawkins Jr.(LeAnn), Jeff Hawkins (Paula), and Lance Hawkins (Leigh). Jimmy also felt immense joy watching the next generation flourish; he adored his granddaughter, Lexi Hawkins Tutt (Bobby). His love for family extended to his brother, Barry L. Hawkins (Denise); his sister, Ann Crosser (Tony); his nieces, Tina Barrett, Cindy Crosser, Amy Moulton; and his nephew, Kenny Hawkins. Together, they remember a man who infused every gathering with laughter and warmth.

Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, Alvin A. Hawkins and Johnnie Hawkins, whose values and spirit he carried forth with every story told and every kindness given.

Jimmy’s heart was drawn to simple pleasures. He found solace and adventure in fishing, often returning with tales that easily wound their way into legendary status at family gatherings. His love for cooking and gardening was evident in the hearty meals and blooming gardens that surrounded his home—the very center of so many family memories. An enthusiastic “piddler,” Jimmy was always tinkering, fixing, or creating—finding joy in the act of making things just a little bit better.

There was always a story on the tip of Jimmy’s tongue, and more often than not, a joke was soon to follow. He never failed to lighten spirits, and his favorite phrase, “Everything is going to be alright,” served as reassurance and comfort in both happy and challenging times. Fondly, he called everyone “Stud Hoss”—a playful nickname that somehow made each person feel uniquely special in his orbit.

Holidays held a particular glow for Jimmy, especially Christmas. He approached the season with a childlike excitement, unable to wait before opening gifts and sharing laughter with those he loved most. It is here, in these simple joys, that his family and friends will continue to find his spirit lingering in their lives.

Above all, Jimmy took greatest pride in his boys and his family, anchoring them with his steady love, wit, and unwavering support. His life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family and the happiness found in both giving and receiving love.
