James Leon Moore, Jr., known by everyone as Jimmy, passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2026, in Memphis, TN, where he was born on October 1, 1958. He was a dedicated family man, known for his genuine kindness, unwavering loyalty, and a (sometimes off color) sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. Above all else, he will be remembered as a selfless individual who always prioritized his family.
Jimmy devoted much of his career to the family business, Jimmy Moore Leasing, before serving as the Vice President of Swaffer Fleet Leasing. He was always committed to getting his customers the exact car they wanted. But his proudest accomplishments were always his children and grandchildren.
When he got home from work, Jimmy always had the TV turned to the game, particularly golf and Memphis football and basketball. He was also a scratch golfer who loved to hit the course on the weekend.
He was also extremely proud of his military service in the Army in Germany earlier in his life.
Jimmy's legacy will be carried on by his beloved family, including his son, Jimmy Moore III, and daughter, Kristen Mitchell. He is also survived by his siblings, Tim Moore, Linda Moore, and Wendy Max, along with the grandchildren he raised, Kelsey Barrett and Chance Close, and his two great-grandchildren, Bronx Hardin and Kaislynn Hardin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Moore, Sr. and Barbara Jean Moore, as well as his wife, Joanie Moore.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on January 9, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM at Hope Church Memphis at the South Hall, located at 8500 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova, TN. Jimmy will then be laid to rest on January 15, 2026, at 9:00 AM at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, TN.
In this time of mourning, we reflect on the impact that Jimmy had on our lives, and we celebrate the legacy of love and laughter he leaves behind. His memory will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and laugh with him.
