James "Jimmy" L. Moore, Sr. was born on May 28, 1934, in Tupelo, Mississippi, and departed this world on May 15, 2025, in Germantown, Tennessee. He lived a life filled with remarkable accomplishments, prevailing love, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
A graduate of Treadwell & Tech High School, Jimmy embarked on a career that would see him serve as the longest-serving Circuit Court Clerk in Tennessee for an admirable 26 years. His passion for public service led him to dedicate eight years as a respected member of the Memphis City Council, where his charisma and smooth demeanor endeared him to many. He also spent 35 years in the car leasing business, where his business acumen shone brightly. His legacy extends beyond titles and accolades; he valued his contributions to society and the relationships he nurtured along the way.
Jimmy was a man of deep personal connections, cherished not only for his professional achievements but also for his affable personality. He loved his family fiercely, finding great joy in the time he spent with them. Among his proudest accomplishments were his children, whom he adored and guided with unwavering support and affection.
In his leisure, Jimmy found solace and pleasure on the golf course, a pastime that allowed him to engage with friends and continue the cultivation of relationships that mattered so much to him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Moore, and his devoted children, Linda Moore, Jimmy Moore, Jr., Wendy Max, and Tim Moore. He held a special place in his heart for his brothers, George D. Moore, Jr. and Larry Moore. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, Kristen Mitchell, Jessica Carroll, Jimmy Moore III, and Heather Moore, as well as his six great-grandchildren, who were a source of joy and inspiration in his later years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, George Dewey Moore, Sr., and his mother, Annie Pearl Shackelford, as well as siblings Elbert Moore, Letha Boyette, Lawrence Moore, and Retha Arrington. He will be forever remembered also by his granddaughter, Holly Moore, whose memory adds to the tapestry of his rich legacy.
As we gather to celebrate his life, visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hope Church Memphis, located at 8500 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova, TN. This will be followed by a funeral service beginning, at 1:00 PM, also at Hope Church Memphis, with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, concluding the remembrance of a man whose contributions to his family and community will resonate for generations to come.
As we honor the life of this remarkable man, we celebrate not just what he has achieved, but how he touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His family was by his side as he transitioned from this life, a fitting testament to the love that surrounded him throughout his journey. James L. Moore, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of integrity, joy, and warmth, forever etched in the hearts of those he loved.
