James Arthur Shreeve

April 13, 1939 — October 8, 2025

Southaven, MS

James Arthur Shreeve, fondly known as "Jimbo," was born on April 13, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri. He passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at Baptist Hospital Desoto in Southaven, Mississippi, leaving behind a legacy enriched by love, laughter, and the passion for teaching and supporting others.

Jimbo was a educator, sharing his knowledge of mathematics through general math, geometry, calculus, and algebra. His impact extended beyond the classroom as he coached high school basketball, inspiring countless students to strive for excellence both in academics and athletics. His career also saw him excelling as a computer programmer for the National Bank of Commerce and The Jordan Companies, where his analytical mind and problem-solving skills were greatly appreciated.

A man of deep convictions and a dry sense of humor, Jim Shreeve was known for his kindness and generosity. He had a special inclination to support veterans, holding a profound respect for those who served. His warmth did not go unnoticed, especially by his loving wife, Leila Diana Hargett Shreeve, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created cherished memories that included delightful trips to Branson, Missouri, and golfing excursions to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Jimbo often enjoyed 30 minute back rubs from his precious with Leila Diana. One could often see him untying Leila's apron strings while she cooked, sharing loving taps on her shoulder that spoke volumes of his affection.

Jim's hobbies reflected his vibrant spirit; he was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast, passionately following the Kansas City Chiefs and the Mississippi River Kings hockey team. There was seldom a day that went by without him tuning in to a game or sharing in the excitement of sports discourse. He relished every moment spent watching golf on television, often sharing the joy it brought him with those around him.

He was educated at the University of Kansas, where he earned a master’s degree that would set the foundation for his teaching career. Jimbo attended First Baptist Church of Horn Lake, where his faith was as important to him as his family and friends.

He leaves behind a close-knit family, including his beloved wife, Leila; his niece, Emily Cottam (Carl) of Horn Lake, MS; and his nephew, Kenneth Shreeve (Tina) of Fairview, TN. He joins in eternal rest his parents, Kenneth and Virginia Shreeve; his precious daughter, Baby Kelly Lynn Shreeve; and siblings, Natalee Pitt and David Shreeve.

Jimbo's life reminds us of the simple joys—genuine love, heartfelt humor, and the enriching connections we foster with one another. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
