Betty Jane “Janie” Lane, known to many simply as Janie, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi. She was born on May 22, 1933, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Janie was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family and to raising her children. She was a strong woman, a fancy lady, and someone who worried over her family all the time because she loved them so deeply. Her family was her proudest accomplishment, along with raising her children, cherishing her grandchildren, and the blessing of being married for more than 55 years.

Her faith was a guiding part of her life. Janie loved Jesus and had a strong faith in Christ. She attended Goodman Oaks Church of Christ for many years. She was conservative and traditional in her values, and she was also a fan of the current administration. She enjoyed trips with her family and had a special love for Elvis Presley.

She is survived by her daughter Brenda Cooke. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Shawn and Chris Walker, Shannon Melton, Ashley Parker, and John Cooke. Her memory will also be cherished by her great-grandchildren, Taelor and Thomas Cambre, Ryan Walker, Jackson Walker, Riley Parker, and Baxton Parker. Janie is also survived by her brother, Barnell Howe, and her sister, Joanne Trotter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Lane; her father, Homer Howe; her mother, Betty Howe; her brother, John Thomas Howe; her sister, Mary Grace Alvarez; her son, Randy Lane; and her daughter, Debrah Derryberry.

Janie will be remembered for her strength, her faith, her love for her family, and the care she gave so freely throughout her life. Her life was centered on the people she loved most, and her memory will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew her.
