Jimmy E. Roberts

April 25, 1946 — March 26, 2023

Jimmy E. Roberts, age 76, of Southaven, MS, died on March 26, 2023, with his family at his bedside.  He was the beloved husband of Sara Joan “Joni” Roberts and wonderful father to daughters Shannon Minnick (Alan) and Kelly Roberts (Wayne), granddaughters Sarah, Bailey and Madison Jose, and great-granddaughters Isabella and Remington and brother to Opie Houston (Mary).

He had health issues caused from polio he contracted at age 3, having been placed in an iron lung for a long period of time.  There were many years of physical therapy.  This did not stop him from living his life to the fullest.  He sailed his sailboat, took great pride in leatherwork, and took excellent care of his family and home.  Jimmy overcame all odds thrown at him with grace, dignity, and a healthy sense of humor.

Jimmy graduated from Catholic High.  He went on to work at the Internal Revenue Service, then spent eleven years as owner-operator of motels in both Arkansas and Texas.  Jimmy also achieved his dream of becoming a Park Ranger for the Nueces Co. Park Service in Port Aransas, Texas, and reveled in sharing stories of his adventures with anyone he met.  He retired from the Memphis Defense Depot in 1995 after many years.

His love was his family, and he showed it every day.  His daughters said he was the best father ever.  He took them on many adventures and especially loved to be on a boat.  The family made many great memories at Arkabutla Lake and in Heber Springs.  He was also an avid dog lover and storyteller … witty, a prankster, and loved a good laugh.  His sense of humor and devotion to family will be greatly missed.

He was the most interesting and brave man our family has ever known.  Jim did not think he was brave, he just did what he thought was right and just.  These words describe him best:  Do everything with a good heart and expect nothing in return, and you will never be disappointed.

Jimmy did not lose his battle.  He won victory over this life, and is now rejoicing in Heaven with his mother Ruth Roberts White, his father, Ira Coleman Roberts, his brother, Ira Ray Roberts, his sister, Marie Catherine Rodgers and his cousins Jerry, Stanley and Michael Baker.
