Joe Frank Brannon Sr., a man whose warmth and unwavering spirit touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi, surrounded by family. Born on June 29, 1933, in Cut and Shoot, Texas, Joe lived a full and inspiring life steeped in devotion, humor, and love.

Known to all as a man who did not meet a stranger, Joe had a gift for making those around him feel valued and cherished. He was renowned for his quick wit and famous one-liners, a lighthearted touch that endeared him to family and friends alike. Beyond his sense of humor, he was the backbone of his family, a steady presence whose strength and guidance helped shape generations.

Joe ’s faithful heart was deeply connected to his church. He was a devoted member and poured his love and efforts into his community, cutting the church yard, attending services, and living his faith daily. His daughter fondly recalls fishing outings with him, moments filled with gentle patience and joy. His granddaughter treasures memories of him walking her down the aisle and sharing their first dance—precious moments that speak to the tenderness and support he offered his loved ones.

A proud Navy Diver and Frogman, Joe served his country with courage and dedication. His work ethic continued throughout his life, as he spent nearly 50 years driving trucks without a single traffic violation or accident—an accomplishment that filled him with pride. After he retired from truck driving he proudly worked for the YMCA as a courier, where he impacted all who he came in contact with.

Joe was a lover of simple pleasures: camping under the stars, crappie fishing, listening to bluegrass music, and yes, trying his luck with the lottery. He also had a great affection for his pets, including his beloved fur-baby Chase, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Brannon; his children, Vicky Lynn Rouse, Joe Frank Brannon Jr. (Tina), Teresa Brannon, and stepdaughter Patty McGlaughlin (Ron); Son-In Law Terry Holcomb, and daughter-in-law Shelia Marcus. Joe and Carol raised grandchildren Jana Brannon, Brittney Justus (Jonathan), and Daniel Elmore. His extended family continues to celebrate his life as they remember grandchildren Jerry Dise, Stephanie Yeager, Christina Parsley, Alicia Beavers, Joe F. Brannon III (Brandi), Tamara Brannon, David Elmore Jr., Shan Brannon, Jessica Marcus, and Lindsey Marcus, Maryanna Yaegar, Chris McLaughlin(Megan), Mike McLaughlin(Erica); and great-great-grandchildren Mila Ann Justus, Ivy Joe Justus, David Elmore III, and Lilly Elmore, Cam Randolph, Caleb Randolph, Taylor Dise, Logan Beavers, Landon Beavers along with a host of other beloved family and friends.

Joe’s journey was marked by profound loss as well. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Chris Brannon; daughters Nancy Holcomb and Patricia Ward; son Bubba Marcus; granddaughter Ashley Brannon; brother James Brannon; and his dear Chase.
