John B. King, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and dedicated community member, passed away unexpectedly on May 24, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi. Born on November 29, 1945, in Conway, South Carolina, John’s life was a testament to commitment, service, and kindness—a legacy that will live on deeply in the hearts of his family and those who knew him.
John’s journey began in Conway, but his path carried him through many places and phases, each marked by a quiet strength and thoughtful spirit. He was a proud graduate of the University of Florida, where the foundations for his lifelong curiosity and dedication were firmly established. His sense of duty extended beyond education, as he served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that shaped much of the man he would become: reserved yet warmly engaging, and always selflessly devoted to others.
Professionally, John made his mark in marketing research, carving out respected careers in Houston, Texas, and Miami, Florida. Beyond his professional achievements, John’s greatest pride lay in his enduring contributions to civic life. He was a committed Jaycee member and served as a senator in Texas. After retirement, his passion for community service found fertile ground in the Boy Scouts. Having been deeply involved as a youth and later as a commissioner, John devoted countless hours supporting the North Mississippi Boy Scout troops, especially inspired by the involvement of his grandson.
John was a man of many talents and interests. Those closest to him remember his artistic nature and his love for woodworking—a craft through which he expressed his creativity and generosity. His home was filled with collections that reflected his meticulous and curious mind, including coins and stamps. Always quietly present, John had the remarkable gift of warmth and welcome; though reserved, he did not meet a stranger and was known for his thoughtful acts and the joy he found in doing things for others.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Marjorie S. and John L. King, and his sister, Mary E. King. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Cynthia A. King, whose heart-rest sorely mourns a partner who was always there and ever steady. Their daughter, Jean E. H. Reeves (Paul D. Sr.), continues his legacy, as do his cherished grandchildren: Asher, Austin Hopper, Kalen, Paul Jr., and Autumn Reeves. John's brother, William L. King, also survives him, carrying forward the family connection that was so precious to him.
John’s visitation will be held on June 25, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed immediately by a memorial service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, located at 290 Goodman Rd E, Southaven, MS 38671. These moments will be a time for all who loved him to gather, remember, and celebrate a life defined by quiet courage, heartfelt service, and enduring love.
In his passings’ suddenness, John reminds us all of the importance of presence, kindness, and the unseen ways a gentle soul can touch so many lives. His wife remembers him simply and profoundly: he was always there for you. In this truth, John B. King’s spirit remains vibrant among those who carry his memory forward, a beacon of love, dedication, and the subtle artistry of a well-lived life.
