Joshua Wayne Matheny, affectionately known as "Uncle Joshy" and simply "Josh," left this world far too soon on January 7, 2026. Born on October 14, 1994, in Southaven, Mississippi, he was a radiant presence whose love and compassion touched the lives of many. Joshua's sudden passing has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and friends, many of whom gathered countless memories and moments with him that they will cherish forever.
From the very beginning, it was clear that Joshua possessed a unique ability to care deeply for those around him. His devotion to his mother and father exemplified his character; he loved and took care of her with a tenderness that showcased the depth of his heart. He enjoyed time with dad, like going to the shooting range and just one on one time with his father. He loved family vacations and his month long adventure in Hawaii. Those who knew him can recount the countless ways he expressed his love, whether through small, kind gestures or through the sheer joy he brought to each gathering.
Education was important to Josh, and he proudly participated in ROTC, an experience that shaped him and instilled pride. Beyond academics, he took joy in gaming, mastering video games with a remarkable skill, and indulging in interests like skateboarding and exploring his fascination with swords. Through these hobbies, he formed lasting connections and friendships that would stay with him throughout his life.
Joshua had an engaging personality that drew people close; he was the best person to be around. His loyalty was unwavering, always having his friends' backs and offering his genuine support whenever needed. His family and friends will fondly remember his vibrant spirit, filled with enthusiasm and kindness, and how he constantly encouraged those around him to be their best selves.
Joshua's family, who loved him dearly, includes his parents, Mike and Barbara Matheny; brothers, Bradley Matheny, Christofer Elder, and Michael Matheny(Christine Scott) ; his loving grandmother, Vicki Matheny (Danny); aunts Melinda (Randy) White, Sunday Pittman, and Michelle Rankins - Matheny; uncles Larry Partridge, Michael (Darlene) Partridge, Matt Matheny, and Ray Matheny; and his cherished nephews, Jaxson Elder and Leeland Matheny. He leaves behind a loving extended family, countless cousins, and many friends who all share in the heartache of his passing.
While his physical presence is no longer with us, Joshua's spirit will forever linger in the memories of those he touched during his life. He joins his deceased grandparents, Thomas and Linda Partridge, and grandfather, Ray Matheny Sr., along with his first cousin Chasity Nakki Partridge and Second cousin Bentley Mason Wade Pittman in eternal rest.
Visitation for Joshua will be held at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, Mississippi, on January 16, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His funeral service will take place the following day, January 17, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM, followed by burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens, where his family will lay him to rest at 3:00 PM.
Joshua Wayne Matheny will be profoundly missed, but the love he gave to his family and friends will continue to resonate in their hearts, reminding them of the beautiful person he was and the legacy he leaves behind.
