Norma Jean Tatum, born on June 18, 1934, in McCrory, Arkansas, left this world on September 6, 2025, in Southaven, Mississippi, after a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication. A remarkable woman whose spirit captivated everyone she met, Norma was truly a feisty spitfire. She was outgoing and social, always dressing to the nines and ready to welcome friends and family into her home, where fellowship and joyous gatherings were cherished.
Norma lived a multifaceted life, having worked as a bank teller and a secretary, but she found her greatest fulfillment as a devoted homemaker and a dedicated Avon representative for more than 30 years. Her proudest accomplishments were the beautiful family she nurtured alongside her beloved husband of 68 years, Harold Tatum. Together they created a warm and loving home for their daughters, Sara Tatum and Jeanne Hodnette (Kenny), where laughter echoed through the halls.
Her nurturing spirit extended to her four grandchildren, Stacy Reeves (Russell), John Bedingfield V (Sayaka), Whitney Niland (Nick), and Morgan Hamby (Matthew), to whom she was a beloved grandmother. Norma had the incredible ability to make everyone feel special, whether by preparing her famous fried pies and peach cobbler or playing card games and dominos with her family. There were many treasured moments spent sitting on the kitchen floor in their Whitehaven home playing jacks and other games.
Norma's vibrant personality shone through in everything she did. She was a prayer warrior, devout in her faith, and a dedicated member of Central Church, where she loved to gather with fellow believers. Her love for the Lord was evident in her life, as she shared the Word of God with those around her and devoted herself to various ministries within the church. Sundays often found her in worship and fellowship, lifting the spirits of all who crossed her path.
Her interests were as vast as her love for life. She adored Southern gospel music, working puzzles, and was a fantastic cook and seamstress. Her southern cooking skills were loved by all. Her competitive nature always had her ready for a friendly game or challenge. The joy of camping filled her heart well into her early 80s, and she never missed an opportunity to cheer on her Razorbacks.
The love that Norma shared with her family was unparalleled; they were her greatest treasure. She was there to send her daughters off to school and back home at the end of the day, always eager to hear about their day. She would enjoy trips to the beauty shop and shopping with daughters and grandchildren, cherishing conversations with friends as she had her hair styled.
Norma’s journey came to a gentle close as she took one last look at her Hunny, Harold, before waking up in the arms of Jesus, a fitting farewell for a woman who loved fiercely and prayed unceasingly. She is preceded in death by her parents, William O. and Sarah (Chandler) Reynolds, as well as seven siblings whom she joins in heaven.
Left to honor her memory are her treasures: her devoted husband; her daughters; her cherished grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren—Maddie, Logan, Eli, Anna, Nora, and Lochlan—as well as her brother Rolfe Reynolds (Jestene) and brother-in-law Ron Tatum.
As we gather to celebrate her incredible life, we will remember Norma Jean Tatum—not just for her steadfast love and outgoing personality but also for the countless smiles, the sweet stories, and the cherished moments shared to all who knew her. A visitation will be held at Central Church in Southaven, Mississippi, on September 10, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 12:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens immediately following.
Norma's legacy lives on in the hearts of her beloved family and friends—a lasting reminder of a life well-lived. She can now truly say "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
