Pamela James

May 11, 1954 — August 20, 2025

Pamela "PJ" James, a beacon of love and warmth, peacefully passed from this world on August 20, 2025, after a brief illness, in Southaven, Mississippi. Born on May 11, 1954, in Evanston, Illinois, she illuminated the lives of those around her with a joyful spirit and an unyielding generosity that left an indelible mark on her family and friends.

With over 30 years as a Corporate Relocation Consultant, Pamela navigated the intricate realms of real estate, notably in California, Illinois, Mississippi and Tennessee. Her professional prowess was matched only by her vivacious personality, as she was the epitome of a fun-loving and stylish woman, exuding a classy yet humble demeanor that drew people in. A true light-bearer, Pamela took immense pride in her appearance and hosted countless gatherings, turning every occasion into an unforgettable celebration infused with her unique charm and hospitality.

Holidays, particularly Christmas, were no ordinary events in Pamela's home; they were grand occasions filled with love and joy, made all the more special by her attentive care. Her home was not only a sanctuary for her family but also a place of refuge for many, having opened her home to more than 25 friends and family to live over the span of 50 years. This doesn't include the many overnight stays she hosted and the 2 churches she hosted for services, embodying the faith that resided deeply in her heart.

She is survived by her adoring spouse, William D. James, III (known affectionately as Bugsy), alongside her loving children, Lannette (Stan) Duany and Ahmonda James. Pamela’s legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Amari Hughes, Tori Smith, Isaiah Smith, Jalen Smith, Ahniyah James, Ahminah James, and Ahmir James, as well as her beloved great-grandchild, Jace Porter. In addition, her heart extended to her bonus grandchildren, Aaron Vialdores, Jabari Porter, and Tarah Smith.

Pamela was nurtured by the companionship of her siblings: Duane Brownlee, Howard (Sharon) Brownlee, Kevin Brownlee, and Alfred (Angela) Brownlee. She was supported in life by a special sister/friend, Belinda (Charles) Johnson, who understood the depths of her beautiful soul. Her furbabies, Prince Henry (affectionately known as Princey) and Bentley James, were fortunate to be enveloped in her unwavering love and care.

Her parents, Howard Owen Brownlee and Elizabeth Jones Brownlee, alongside her bonus child Tonnica Anderson and son-in-law Troy Douglas Smith, welcomed her with open arms on the other side, creating a loving reunion that speaks to the bonds of family that transcend our earthly existence.

Pamela "PJ" James will be honored in a Celebration of Life Memorial held on September 6, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, immediately followed by a repast at the same location, at the Riverview Room of the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in Oak Brook, Illinois. Her spirit will endure in the memories shared among those who had the privilege of knowing her, as they reminisce about the beautiful moments crafted and the love that continues to flourish in the hearts she touched.
