Patricia Jean Mentgen, 78, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and sustained by the faith that guided her throughout her life.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful Catholic, Patricia lived her life with strength, kindness, and unwavering trust in God. Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life, shaping the way she loved her family, served others, and faced life's joys and challenges with grace. She faithfully served her community as a teacher of over 40 years and catechist in RCIA.
A Visitation and Rosary will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 545 E. Commerce Street, Hernando, MS 38632. A bereavement meal will follow the visitation and Rosary.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 1425 E. Shelby Drive, Memphis, TN 38116. Family and friends are invited to gather in prayer and remembrance as they celebrate Patricia's life and commend her soul to the loving mercy of God.
Patricia was preceded in death by her loving parents, George and Mary Murdaugh; her sisters, Mary Angela and Kathleen; her beloved grandson, Zachary; her brothers in law Terry Henson and Bill Walker; and her sister in law Nancy Mentgen.
Patricia is lovingly survived by her husband of 59 years, David Mentgen. Together they built a loving family that was the center of her life and greatest source of pride.
She is also survived by her six children: Wesley Mentgen; Carolyn Vance; Ben Mentgen (Laura); Tricia Wallace (Lance); Matthew Mentgen; and Sarah McKnight (Robert). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Danielle, Abby (Adrian), Conner (Leah), Brandon, Elizabeth, Rachael, Belle, Emma, Marietta, Coen, and Brody. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Aria, and Arlo, whose lives brought her additional happiness and fulfillment.
She also leaves behind extended family members, dear friends, and fellow parishioners who were touched by her faith, warmth, and gentle spirit.
Patricia will be remembered for her steadfast devotion to God, her love for her family, her compassionate heart, and the example of faith she provided to all who knew her. Though her earthly journey has ended, her family finds comfort in the promise of Christ's resurrection and in knowing that she is now at peace in the loving presence of the Lord.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23
May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
