Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Paul William Pearson Sr.—affectionately known as “PW”—who departed this life suddenly on June 23, 2026, in Memphis, Tennessee. Born on November 21, 1937, in Marks, Mississippi, Paul lived a life full of warmth, humor, hard work, and boundless love for family and friends.

Paul’s story began in the rolling fields of Mississippi, born to George and Isabelle Pearson, and shaped by the close-knit bond of family, cherished especially by his grandmother, Ellie J. Kelly. Graduating from Humes High School in 1956, he soon embarked on a journey that would see him touch countless lives in both small ways and grand gestures.

A proud veteran, Paul served his country as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force, stationed in Panama City, Florida, from 1956 to 1962. His expertise, discipline, and dedication laid the foundation for a life of industriousness and a remarkable work ethic. Embracing multiple careers, Paul began as a salesperson before managing the body shop at Regal Oldsmobile. He then found his calling as an insurance adjuster for both Pilot Catastrophe Services and Valco-USA, before retiring in 2010.

To those who knew him, Paul was a source of light and laughter—a jokester with a big heart, never meeting a stranger, always lending a helping hand, and giving generously of himself with a spirit as big as his smile. He was a knowledgeable man, always willing to share a word of advice or spin a clever story. For those lucky enough to cross his path, the impression he left was indelible; he made friends wherever he went, bringing joy and warmth into their lives.

Above all, Paul’s greatest pride and joy was his family. For 68 years, he called his beloved wife Myrtis his “bride”, beginning each day by bringing her coffee in bed—a simple act that spoke volumes of his unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a beacon, and their partnership stood as a testament to enduring love. Paul cherished his daughter, Donna Clayton, never letting a moment pass without reminding Donna, no matter her age, that she was his baby girl. As the father of the late Paul W. “Bill” Pearson, II, Paul’s love and guidance leaves a lasting impact on his children.

Paul was a devoted grandfather to Tommy (Magan) Garner, Hunter Clayton, and Stacey Garner, his support steady and present at every game and event, from baseball fields to horse shows. He loved and supported his bonus daughter/niece Penne (Bill) Wilson, as well.  Additionally, the next generation—Dalton Garner, Graham Garner, Michaela Garner, Marleigh Gray, and Jack Gray—grew up in the glow of his affection and the example he set. Though he mourned the loss of son Bill and grandsons Allen Garner and Michael Wayne Garner, as well as cat Elvis and dog Diablo, he carried their memory with him always, looking forward with hope to being reunited one day.

His mom, dad, grandmother and siblings precede him in death—brothers Tommy and Danny Pierce—yet Paul’s zest for life was enriched by friendships built over a lifetime, including a deep bond with his late friend Danny Brown.

Paul’s time on earth was filled with cherished moments—coaching little league baseball, riding horses and hanging out at the barn with friends and family, hunting at the club, cooking for the deer camp, and treating his girls to a new car every Friday so they could ride around town in style. For four decades he made his home in Tunica, where he delighted in throwing grand Fourth of July parties that brought together neighbors and loved ones in laughter and celebration.

His countless hobbies reflected a life lived with passion and intention: an enthusiast of CB radios and an active member of his CB radio club; never missing a single LSU game, whether in person or in spirit; a lover of hummingbirds, both watching and feeding them; and finding satisfaction in the simple beauty of a well-kept yard, where he spent hours mowing grass and perfecting his landscape. Never one to pass up a favorite meal, Paul relished double-loaded hashbrowns at Waffle House, savoring both the food and the company.

Paul’s legacy is defined by the love he gave so freely, the laughter he inspired, and the lessons he taught simply by living well. A man of integrity, warmth, and generosity, he was always in the stands at games, always in the front row of life, cheering on his children and grandchildren. He treasured family above all, never missing a baseball game or horse show, always ensuring that those he loved felt supported and seen.

Though his departure leaves a deep ache in our hearts, we find comfort in knowing Paul William Pearson Sr. is now reunited with those family and friends who journeyed before him. The echo of his rich, laughter-filled voice, the stories he shared, and the love he poured into all corners of his life will continue to inspire those who remain.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Myrtis Pearson; devoted daughter, Donna (Phillip) Clayton and; cherished grandchildren Tommy (Magan) Garner, Hunter Clayton, and Stacey Garner; beloved great-grandchildren Dalton Garner, Graham Garner, Michaela Garner, Marleigh Gray, and Jack Gray. He is also cherished in memory by so many whose lives he touched.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home, 290 Goodman Road East, Southaven, MS 38671, with visitation on June 29, 2026, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 pm, and interment will be held at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

As we say goodbye to Paul, we celebrate the tremendous life he lived—a man who was always there, always loving, and always making the world a brighter place. He will forever be missed, and we are all so lucky to have known him.
