Peggy’s professional journey culminated as the vice president of lending for the City of Memphis Credit Union, a position she held with distinction until her retirement in 2002. Her commitment to her work and her esteemed reputation in the financial sector have left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
Known for her proud and friendly demeanor, Peggy was a beacon of warmth and kindness. She loved deeply, crafting meaningful relationships with everyone who crossed her path. Her family remembers her not only as a sister but as a steadfast supporter and confidante, showcasing the essence of what it means to be a loving family member. She was particularly close to her sister, Shirley Lowrey, with whom she created countless memories through traveling and shopping adventures. Additionally, Peggy's relationship with her adopted daughter, Missy Gravat (Jeff), was a central part of her life; their bond was built on shared experiences and mutual love, including shopping excursions that brought them joy.
A devotee of the simple pleasures in life, Peggy took immense delight in her yard, where she lovingly tended to her flowers. She found tranquility and fulfillment in nurturing her outdoor sanctuary, reflecting her passionate spirit. Family reunions were occasions she cherished, occasions that united loved ones and sparkled with the laughter of her many nieces and nephews.

Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her surviving family members, including her sister Shirley, her adopted daughter Missy, her son-in-law Jeff, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bennett, her sons Mark and Michael Wilson, her parents, James H. and Rhoda Mae (Mathis) Hawkins, and her brother Sonny Hawkins.
