Roy Wayne Sulton, affectionately known as Wayne, departed from this world on May 16, 2025, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and the unwavering support he offered to those fortunate enough to know him. Born on June 7, 1944, in Malvern, Arkansas, Wayne grew up surrounded by the warm embrace of family and friends, which instilled in him strong values and a heartfelt generosity that would define his life.
Wayne spent his career as a skilled repairman, working diligently on cars, trucks, and televisions. His steadfast dedication to his craft earned him the respect and gratitude of many in his community. Known for being a bit set in his ways, there was nevertheless an underlying tenderness to Wayne that drew people to him. He had a particular knack for helping anyone in need, showcasing a generosity of spirit that made a lasting impact on the lives of those he touched. While he sometimes bore a grumpy exterior, those close to him understood that beneath it lay a heart filled with compassion.
One of the most endearing aspects of his personality was his playful side, especially when it came to his great-nephew Roy. He would chase young Roy around while Roy had a trash can on his head, often inciting peals of laughter and forming beautiful memories that will forever linger in the hearts of his family. This love for family extended well beyond just play; Wayne enjoyed simple yet precious moments, such as getting the mail alongside Roy, signifying the joy he found in sharing life’s little adventures.
Wayne's love for reading was another pillar of his life; he was a frequent visitor to the local library, where he found solace in the pages of countless books. This passion for knowledge not only enriched his own life but also influenced those around him, as he shared his discoveries and stories with family and friends alike.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara Bland; his brother, Terry Sulton; and a host of nieces and nephews who carry forward the memories and lessons imparted by their beloved Wayne. Although he has joined his parents, Roy Walter and Jane (Jacobs) Sulton, and his sister, Sherry Wells, in eternal rest, the impact he made during his lifetime continues to live on through those he leaves behind.
Wayne's life was a mosaic of hard work, humor, and a fierce devotion to his family. Though we mourn the loss of this remarkable man, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit remains alive in the laughter and kindness of those who knew and loved him. As we remember Roy Wayne Sulton, let us celebrate the moments he gifted us, the lessons he taught, and the indelible mark he left on our hearts.
To further Wayne's love of reading to others, memorial donations may be made to the M. R. Davis Library, 8554 Northwest Drive, Southaven, MS 38671.
