Ruth Louise Carter, lovingly called "Rufus," entered this world on October 7, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois. On January 15, 2026, she passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Olive Branch, MS at the blessed age of 91.

Ruth's dazzling personality was marked by wit and sarcasm, a hallmark of her interactions with friends and family alike. Never one to meet a stranger, she often made those around her laugh with her outgoing, quirky personality. Ruth's love for her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, was boundless.

Ruth was passionate about reading, finding comfort and joy in her favorite books. In addition to her love of literature, she enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting and cooking. The recipes she perfected over the years will continue to be cherished by her family and friends, offering sweet memories of her.

Ruth’s proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and purpose. She is survived by her beloved children: Jacqueline Dykes, James (Teresa) Carter, and Jennifer (Brandon) League. The legacy of her love continues through her grandchildren: Patrick Holden, Jessica Gaia, Danielle (Daniel) Guinn, Mallory (Randy Lord) Harvey, Angela (Dylan) Amarrman, John David Carter, Ciara (Ralph) Jaramillo, Alex (Jesse) Hobbs Allen, Jacob Hobbs, Haylee League, Leeanna League, and Jolee League, along with her 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Ruth is also survived by her sister, Lynn I. Davison, and her cherished niece and nephews, Corinn Davison, Colin Davison, and Benjamin Davison, who will carry forward her spirit and values.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Carter, and her cherished son, John William Carter. Their memories remain etched in the hearts of their family, forever cherished and remembered.
