Sammy Joe Richardson, a cherished member of his community and a beloved family man, left this world peacefully on June 28, 2025, at the age of 78, in Southaven, Mississippi. Born on May 8, 1947, in Batesville, Arkansas, Sammy Joe lived a life brimming with kindness, service, and unwavering dedication.

Sammy Joe will be remembered fondly for his impressive 30-year career as one of the original employees at FedEx. Through his innovative cost-saving measures, he not only contributed to the success of the company but also earned recognition for his work ethic and loyalty. His legacy as a faithful employee carries on, and he took immense pride in the contributions he made throughout his career.

Education played a vital role in Sammy Joe’s early life; he was known as a hometown basketball star and attended Arkansas State University, where his passion for sports began to flourish. A devoted veteran, he served honorably in the Air Force, learning avionics systems and repairs. This experience shaped his character, reinforcing his respectful and honorable nature.

Sammy Joe was a man of deep faith, finding joy in serving his church community. He taught Sunday School and was actively involved in community outreach, helping those in need, and ensuring that no one was left behind. Those who knew him spoke of a kind-hearted gentleman who always had a positive word for everyone he encountered. His gentle spirit and memorable laugh would light up the room, as he never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand.

Throughout his life, Sammy Joe enjoyed many hobbies, including golf and sports. He devoted numerous years to volunteering at the St. Jude Classic, always finding ways to contribute to the greater good. His love for dogs, particularly his loyal companion Benji, brought him great joy. Sammy Joe's energy was infectious, and his sweet demeanor left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Sammy Joe’s proudest accomplishments lay not only in his career but in his unwavering role as a son, grandson, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a loving spouse to Kathy Richardson, an adoring father to Lance (Aisha) Richardson, and a grandfather to his cherished grandchild, Junie. In addition, he leaves behind his sister-in-law Luella Richardson, several nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends who are grateful for the time they spent with him.

Though he grieved the loss of his parents, John and Allene Richardson, and his brother, Danny R. Richardson, his family and friends continue to celebrate his life and the warmth he brought into their lives.

A visitation for Sammy Joe Richardson will be held on July 3, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, Mississippi. He will then be interred at Locust Grove Cemetery in Locust Grove, Arkansas, at 2:30 PM the same day.

As we reflect on the life of Sammy Joe, we are reminded of the impact one person can have on the lives of others. His thoughtfulness, generosity, and love for humanity will be deeply missed, yet his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
