It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Samuel Lamar Huggins Jr., affectionately known as Lamar, who left this world on August 12, 2025, in Southaven, Mississippi, at the age of 69. Born on December 28, 1955, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Lamar was a beacon of strength and love for his family, especially his siblings. As the oldest sibling, he took on the role of protector, ensuring that his beloved sisters and brother were always safe and cherished. His guidance and care will be profoundly missed by those who had the privilege of calling him family.
Lamar possessed a robust intelligence and a caring personality that touched many lives. He had an undeniable love for animals and a passion for music that spanned genres, although Rock and Roll held a special place in his heart. Whether he was strumming his guitar or collecting Rock and Roll albums, his enthusiasm for music was infectious. It was in the rhythm of his favorite songs that Lamar found joy, often reflecting the highs of life through melodic notes and heartfelt lyrics.
A baptized member of the Baptist faith, Lamar’s spirituality informed his kind nature and commitment to his family. He took pride in the connections he nurtured over the years, particularly with his sisters, Sherry (Robby) Walters and Gail Wray, who always knew they could count on him in times of need. Lamar is also survived by his beloved Aunt Marjorie, a host of nieces, nephews, and a circle of friends who cherished every moment spent in his company. Even his loyal dog, Tobey, felt the warmth and companionship that only Lamar could provide.
In addition to his nurturing spirit, Lamar was known for his meticulous care of his motorcycle, a 2007 model that glistened as if it were fresh from the showroom. This pride in his personal accomplishments mirrored the love he poured into his relationships. On August 15, 2025, a graveside service will be held at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Southaven at 1:00 PM, where family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable man that Lamar was.
Lamar's unexpected departure due to a sudden massive heart attack leaves an unimaginable void in the hearts of his family and friends. While we mourn the loss of a brother, a protector, and a devoted friend, we also celebrate the vibrant life he lived, filled with music, love, and loyalty. He will be remembered not only for his keen intellect and caring nature but also as a loving guardian of his family and a devoted music enthusiast who understood the profound connection between beats and life itself. May he rest in peace, forever embraced by the love he so freely offered to others.
