Terry "TJ" Jennings, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, departed this world on August 21, 2024, in Memphis, Tennessee. Born on February 27, 1946, in San Diego, California, he lived life full of energy laughter, and love leaving an indelible mark on who had the pleasure of knowing him. For over 36 years, TJ owned and operated Choice Auto Parts, where he was not just a businessman, but also a pillar of his community. His energetic and enthusiastic spirit made him a favorite among customers and colleagues alike. He graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts, showcasing a commitment to education and personal growth that he instilled in his family.
TJ was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Air Force and earning the rank of Captain. His military service was a point of pride, reflecting his dedication and sense of duty. Outside of work and duty, he was an athletic man with a love for sports; he golfed three days a week, never missed a single athletic event featuring his cherished grandchildren, and enjoyed playful activities like cornhole and waterskiing. His adventurous spirit even led him to become the oldest person to complete the zipline at Shelby Farms, an accomplishment he fondly remembered.
Perhaps his greatest joys were found in the loving embrace of his family. For 55 wonderful years, he shared his life with his beloved wife, Wanda (Taylor) Jennings. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey filled with sweet memories, laughter, and love. He took immense pride in his role as a father to his son Eric Jennings (Kristy) and his daughter Heath Jennings (David Beal) and as a grandfather to four amazing grandchildren: Morgan, Wendi, Drew, and Chase. He never missed an opportunity to sing with his family at Christmas, creating memories that will be cherished forever, and he loved taking trips and sharing experiences with his grandchildren, nurturing their interests and passions.
TJ's personality was one of a kind—he was a very funny man who brightened every room with his infectious smile and humor. His energy was contagious, and he had an uncanny ability to make people feel at ease. He shared many cherished moments with his two sisters, Linda Avent and Janet Barnheart, and treasured his relationships with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
While Terry was surrounded by love, he was met with profound loss as well. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Lee and Jeanette (Pine) Jennings, a brother, Lance Jennings, and brothers-in-law Don Taylor and Cotton Jolly, along with sister-in-law Diane Palmer. Each of these individuals held a special place in his heart, and their memories will be part of his lasting legacy.
A visitation for friends and family will be held on August 25, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, located at 290 Goodman Rd E, Southaven, MS 38671.
As we fondly remember Terry "TJ" Jennings, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched. His legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will continue to inspire and comfort his family as they navigate the days ahead without him. We celebrate his life—one that was well-lived, filled with passion, and characterized by his unwavering love for family and friends.
