With heavy yet grateful hearts, we remember the life and legacy of Thomas James Wack, lovingly known by many as “The Lone Wolf.” Thomas passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi, after bravely facing memory problems and prostate cancer. His journey touched countless lives and his indomitable spirit inspires all who knew him.
Born on December 31, 1945, in Elyria, Ohio, Thomas’ journey began in the warm embrace of his parents, Earl and Elanor Wack (both deceased), who nurtured his curious mind and supported his early endeavors. From a young age, Thomas’ intelligence and devotion set him apart. He was raised in Private Lutheran Schools, and relocated to Memphis, TN in the early 60's followed by high school at Overton. With a passion for learning and a drive to succeed, Thomas continued his education at Southwest Community College for two years, and later at William R Moore Technical Institute, where he graduated as a Master Electrician in 1966—a milestone that would shape his future and those around him.
Thomas’ life was filled with proud milestones and enduring love. Sixty years ago, he married his beloved Mary, embarking on a partnership that would withstand the winds and rains of life. Together, with Mary Wanda by his side, they started Desoto County Electric in 1975—an ambitious endeavor upon which they built their legacy. What began with only $200, a $50 van, and unwavering belief grew into a multi-million dollar company. Thomas and Mary Wanda’s hard work turned their dreams into reality, recently marked by the purchase of a $250,000 bucket truck. Through all these years, he never truly retired; his devotion to his business and community could not be dimmed by the passage of time.
A proud father and grandfather, Thomas deeply loved his sons and treasured family moments. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Wanda, his cherished son, Mark Thomas Wack; his loving daughter-in-law, Ginny Wack; and his adored grandchildren, Connor and Mary Caroline. His memory remains a source of strength and inspiration to his sister, Pat Lee. While Thomas now rests in peace, he is reunited with those who preceded him in death: his father Earl, his mother Elanor, his dearly missed son Michael Scott Wack, and his companion Benji.
Thomas’ adventurous spirit carried him far beyond professional achievements. From the tender age of 12, he started to ride his motorcycle. He then rode all over the country, each trip a testament to his love for the open road. He visited Sturgis, exploring the highways and sharing in the camaraderie of fellow travelers. Hunting was a favorite pastime, creating memories in landscapes across America. Friends recall with affection the story of his most adventurous canoe trip, when he found himself lost in the wilds of Arkansas—a tale that became legend among those who knew him. These stories remain woven into the fabric of his life.
Service to others was central to Thomas’ character. He served honorably in the US Naval Air as a radio operator, communications specialist, and navigator. Even a lightning strike that affected his hearing could not deter him from giving his best to his country and his comrades.
Throughout his life, Thomas’ faith was steadfast. He was wholehearted in his devotion to his church, cherishing his church family and serving as head elder with unfailing kindness and compassion. His loved ones remember him as intelligent, loyal, friendly, devoted, and compassionate. He was always available to those in need—his pastor remembering him as just a phone call away—and he found boundless joy in being surrounded by those with whom he shared his faith.
As we gather to celebrate Thomas’s extraordinary life, we invite those whose lives he touched to join us at Longview Heights Baptist Church, 4501 Goodman Rd, Olive Branch, MS 38654. Visitation will be held on August 26, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by a Funeral Service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to share in a Celebration of Life Meal beginning at 12:30 p.m., with a Procession starting at 1:30 p.m.
Though Thomas James Wack’s earthly journey has drawn to a close, his kindness, courage, and steadfast love remain with us. He leaves behind a legacy built on faith, family, and unwavering integrity. We are forever grateful for the mark he left upon our hearts and the world.
