March 24, 1963 — August 7, 2025

Southaven, MS

Vasser D. Hurt, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, departed this life on August 7, 2025, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was born on March 24, 1963, in Greenville, MS, and lived a life marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his family.

As an over-the-road truck driver, Vasser navigated the long stretches of highways, but it was within the hearts of his loved ones that he truly made his mark. He had a unique blend of humor and sincerity that made him not only a great parent but also a cherished friend. Vasser was known for his dark sense of humor and for being unafraid to speak the truth, qualities that provided both laughter and wisdom to those around him.

Vasser had a passion for life that was reflected in his love for fishing and exploring new dining experiences with family. Whether he was teaching his children about the Bible and his beliefs or sharing a meal with them, he created memories that will forever be etched in their hearts. His devotion to his children—Vasser (Samantha) Hurt, Victoria Johnson, Victor Johnson, and Jessamy Johnson—was evident in every moment they spent together. He cherished the joy of being a father and found immense pride in witnessing the lives of his children flourish, as well as in the joy brought by his grandchildren.

He leaves behind the mother of his children, Doris Johnson, and a host of grandchildren, siblings, and dear friends who will carry his memory forward. Vasser’s parents, Albert and Mary Hurt, alongside his deceased siblings, and child, welcome him in eternal peace.

A graveside service to honor Vasser’s life and contributions will take place at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Southaven, MS, on August 10, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM.
