Albert M. “Bud” Sewell

September 4, 1942 — August 30, 2016

If Heaven has a baseball team they now have a new coach. Albert M. Sewell left this earth on August 30, 2016 after a lengthy illness. “Bud”, as he was known by some, was born September 4, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was predeceased by Albert M. Sewell, Jr. and his loving mother, Cissy Baker.

Coach Sewell is survived by his wife, Scherry of Horn Lake, MS; children, Albert M.Sewell IV (Elizabeth) of Nesbit, MS, Teresa Sewell Bensch of San Diego, CA, Jeff Sewell (Kathleen) of Horn Lake, Tammy Sewell Sousan and Clint Sewell (Catherine) both of Olive Branch, MS, as well as Adrian and Dylan Mitchell both proudly serving our armed forces and Michael Turner.  Siblings include Nickey Sewell (Theresa) of Flower Lake, MS, Ms. Joan Sewell Walker of Arlington, TN, Gene P. Baker (Kyna) of Little Rock, AR and Thomas Baker of Nesbit.  Albert leaves 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and adoring friends.

A legendary prep baseball All Memphis standout at Humes High School in Memphis, Albert was a feared power hitter with a cannon arm in left field, but his real imprint was in his coaching legacy.  Hundreds of young men trace their early football and baseball beginnings to a firm and loving eye that was Coach Sewell.  Their love of the game to this day and the love passed down to other generations are traceable to Coach Albert M. Sewell.
