Charles Mack Hayes

July 15, 1932 — May 23, 2018

Mr. Charles Mack Hayes, 85, of Hernando, MS passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto, located in Southaven, MS. He worked as a director of transportation at Schering-Plough Corp. for over thirty years. Mr. Hayes was a lover of wildlife and nature. He was avid hunter and fisherman, his favorite game being whitetail deer. He was what you’d call an animal whisper because he had a love and connection for all animals, both domesticated and wild. Mr. Hayes enjoyed being outdoors camping, boating, or simply enjoying nature. He enjoyed tinkering and working in his garage, as it was a stress reliever for him. Mr. Hayes adored his family more than anything else and they were truly his first love in life. He was an amazing husband and caretaker for his wife, Ruby throughout their sixty-four years of marriage. He enjoyed any time he was able to get together with his family and friends. Mr. Hayes had a very close friendship with his home caregiver, Rose. He was known to her as “My Grandpa” and they would often banter and joke with one another like a brother and sister would. Mr. Hayes was loved by everyone who came in contact with him. He had a certain charisma that naturally attracted people to him and they thought a lot of him and his character. He was a trustworthy and dependable person. He always made sure to help whoever was in need. He was always respectful, grateful, and extremely appreciative of everyone who was placed in his life. Mr. Hayes was truly cherished and his legacy will continue to live on through the many memories he made with family and friends.

Mr. Hayes leaves behind his two daughters, Debby Hayes Allen (Cary) of Memphis, TN and Linda Hayes Yeager (Ken) of Collierville, TN; his loving and attentive caregiver of seven years, Rose Winfield of Senatobia, MS; two grandsons, Keith Yeager of Collierville and Blake Gifford (Ashley) of Germantown, TN; one granddaughter, Brandi Massey of Memphis; two great-grandsons, Will Gifford of Bartlett, TN and Mason Gifford of Germantown; one great-granddaughter, Alice Gifford of Germantown.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Ruby M. Borchert Hayes; parents, Walter Harold and Verla Virginia Hayes; brother, Harold Hayes; and grandson Kevin Yeager.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations and memorials in honor of Mr. Charles Mack Hayes, be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or to the Desoto County Humane Society (251 Humane Way, Nesbit, MS 38651).
