Mrs. Doris Jean Collums, 87, passed away peacefully and with grace on November 21, 2022, at her residence in Walls, Mississippi.
She was born on November 12, 1935, to Herman and Gertrude Moses, in Lee County Mississippi. She graduated from Nettleton High School in 1955. Jean married her soulmate, Jervis, on March 11, 1957. They settled outside of Memphis, Tennessee to raise their family. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandma, and friend. She knew the value of gentle, hardworking hands and possessed a beautiful, quiet spirit that will move forward in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.
Jean had a creative mind which she expressed as a highly skilled seamstress. She found great joy in quilting, embroidery, crochet and appliqué, and was part of a local quilting group, “The Bullfrog Corner Quilters.” She also enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, reading, shopping, and baking. Above all she was happy, and was full of gratitude and love for her family and close friends.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, Mississippi at 1:00 PM. Family visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to any organization that uplifts your local community, like a public library.
She is survived by her four children Cathy Jean Landon (Buddy), Lanny Jervis Collums Jr. (Kathleen), Robert Alan Collums (Heather), and Jenny Lynn Birkenmeier (Matt); her nine grandchildren Kristina Pullen, Toni Roberts (Jason), Joshua Collums, Kaitlyn Wolfe (Tyler), Cameron Collums (Angie), Benjamin Birkenmeier, Lauren Birkenmeier, Aydan Collums, and McKenna Collums; brother Tommy Moses (Lynda); five great grandchildren Kathryn Pullen, Kayleigh Pullen, Konnyr Pullen, Miles Collums, Jonas Roberts, Emma Wolfe, Felix Wolfe, and Ronald Wolfe; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lanny Jervis Collums; her parents, Herman and Gertrude Moses; her siblings, Carl Moses, Charles Moses, Bobby Joe Moses, and Kay Holland; her grandsons, Sean Dugger and Tyler Turner; and her canine companion, Mollie.
