On September 24, 2019, Elbert Rodgers Jr., (Pop) of Olive Branch, Mississippi went to be with his Heavenly Father. He leaves behind his wife Linda B Rodgers of 41 years. One son: Mark Rodgers (Patty), three daughters; Teresa Dowlings (Wayne), Lanette Pulliam (Marty), and Lori Walls. One sister: Sheila Pollan (Tom), two brothers; Wayne Rodgers (Geraldine), and Kennith Rodgers. Nine grandchildren; Mandy (Derek), Mark, Kim, William, Betsy, Jamie, Charles, Anna, and Elliott, six great-grandchildren; Hailey, Hannah, Kailey, Katy, Willow, & Tucker, and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Elbert was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Rodgers Sr., mother, Addie Bailey Rodgers, brother, Jerry Rodgers, and sister, Barbara Purdon (Albert).
Elbert owned Rodgers Texaco and Radiator shop in Memphis, Tennessee. Once he retired, he became an avid fisherman and bird watcher. The Commercial Appeal published a story on February 17, 1994, detailing the excellent care he provided for the ducks and geese during the harsh winter months on Lake Garner, in Lakeland, Tennessee, where he also served as Lake Ranger.
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 29th, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 30th, at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. Mike McCarter, William Pulliam, Mark Rodgers, Barry Hooker, Tim Rodgers, and Wayne Dowling will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be; Tom Pollan, Marty Pulliam, Dr. Dana Nash, and the staff at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Dana Nash and the entire family of caregivers at Trinity Missions Health and Rehab in Holly Springs, Mississippi for the loving care they provided Pop.
Memorials can be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (Building Fund), Olive Branch, Mississippi.
