Evelyn Jean Mccammon

September 28, 1936 — November 5, 2019

Evelyn Jean Bell (Thomas) McCammon, passed away November 5, 2019 at the age of 83 after a long hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s.  She was born September 28, 1936, in Henning, TN, the second daughter of Willie G. Bell and Laura Marie Bell. She graduated in 1985 from Baptist School of Nursing, Memphis, TN with an RN degree after having been out of school for over 30 years.  While rearing her children she was very active in the community. One summer she cared for several of the neighborhood children while also coaching her daughter’s softball team and playing on a women’s team. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother for her son’s scout troop and a leader for her daughters’ Girl Scout Troop.  But she probably most enjoyed her time as a school bus driver for DeSoto County Schools. She was known as the “cool” bus driver because she kept a radio on the bus that was blaring the hits of the day on WHBQ radio. Evelyn was also very active in the Women of the Moose.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 9, 2019, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Twin Oaks Funeral Home, 290 Goodman Rd. E., Southaven, MS(290 Goodman Road East Southaven, MS 38671).  Funeral service will be immediately following at 2:00 pm, November 9th. Interment will follow at Twin Oaks Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her only son, Charles Michael (Mike) Thomas; her parents, Willie G. Bell and Laura Marie Bell; and her sisters, Anna Lois Bell, Lora Marie (Bell) Johnson and Mary Louise (Bell) Shaw; her husband of 32 years and the father of her children, Charles A. Thomas; her husband, W. H. McCammon; and 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew Michael Delony and Owen Mitchell Delony.  She is survived by her daughter Sherri Thomas Davis and her husband Larry, with whom she lived; her daughter Kathy Thomas Raburn and her husband Allen; 7 grandchildren; Jennifer Johnson (Spencer), Samantha Adams (Thomas), Laura Delony (Jeremy), Bryon Raburn (Melanie), Kymberleigh D. Riley (Bryan), Kiel T. Davis (Krissy) and Charles “Chip” Thomas; and 21 great-grandchildren.
