FRANCIS “SMITTY” SMITH June 12, 1946 - May 25, 2015

Olive Branch, MS –

FRANCIS “SMITTY” SMITH, 68, was born June 12, 1946 in Wichita, KS and passed away May 25, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto in Southaven, MS.  Mr. Smith was a former mechanic for The Caddy Shack, was a mason, and attended Getwell Road United Methodist Church in Southaven.  If you were a lost soul in this world Smitty had a place for you in his heart. He took care of his friends and pampered his family. He believed in honesty and second chances. Loving people was as natural as breathing to him. He was always the person to call if you were stuck, scared or even broke. He was there to help but in a way that allowed you to feel worthy and not less. From golf to NASCAR he enjoyed life. He loved his kids and Grandchildren and he always made sure they knew it. Smitty also adored his wife Jo, he would tell anyone who would listen that she was the best cook in the world and why go out when he had the best at home. You knew you had something special if you had him in your life. He was a blessing and those who knew him will never forget him.  He is survived by his wife, Jo Marie Smith of Olive Branch; two sons, Phillip Schaller and his wife, Lisa of Sumter, SC and Shon Schaller of Joplin, MO; five daughters, Renee Wells and her husband, Barney of Wichita, KS, Debra Pray and her husband, Ron of Crosby, TX, Tammie Herl and her husband, Jim of Great Bend, KS, Shelley Mitchell and her husband, Chris, and Melissa Wright and her husband, Jason, all of Olive Branch; one sister, Peggy Brockman and her husband, Earl of Clearwater, KS; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Harriett Smith.  Visitation will be Saturday, May 30 from 1 p.m. until the service begins at 2 p.m. at Getwell Road United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to the American Lung Association or The ARC of Northwest Mississippi at 6515 Goodman Road, #281, Olive Branch, MS  38654.
