Gara Bernice Cox

Gara Bernice Cox, 89, of New Albany, MS and formerly of Olive Branch, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023 at Mykayla’s Residential Living in New Albany. She was born in Pontotoc County, MS on September 14, 1933 to the late Oscar and Idella (Baker) Birchfield.
Gara was a member of Clearview Baptist Church in Southaven and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to collect teapots, gossip, enjoyed cross stitching, tending to her houseplants, and word search puzzles. She was also known to make the best biscuits.
In addition to her parents, Gara is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Finley Wilson Cox, son Larry Cox, Sr. daughter Kristy Lynn Cox, and brothers John “Buck” Edward Birchfield, LQ Birchfield, and Lamar Birchfield.
Gara will be lovingly remembered by her sons, John Cox (Cathy) and Randy Cox (Jan), five grandchildren, Melissa, Tera, Larry Jr., Charly, and Brandon, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Twin Oaks Funeral Home from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be private at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
