Jim Stone

October 30, 1946 — April 23, 2018

Mr. Jim Stone, 71, of Horn Lake, MS, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto, located in Southaven, MS. He was a wrecker tow truck driver for most of his adult life. As the saying goes, a jack of all trades and a master of none, but he was the master of many. Mr. Stone loved working with his hands, whether it was helping as a mechanic or working on and building computers. He was a very intelligent person and taught him self many of the trade skills he had acquired. Mr. Stone was a former marine in the United States Marine Corp. He was a very selfless man, always looking after his family and others. He was also very loyal and stood by the decisions he made and the words he spoke. He had an infectious smile that could light up a room, and he was always telling jokes. Even if the joke wasn’t funny, you’d begin to laugh listening to his laugh. He loved his family more than life itself. You could always find Mr. Stone every Sunday morning having breakfast with his mother and brothers, fellowshipping with one another and reminiscing about their lives together. He was a very attentive father and was always involved in his daughters’ lives growing up and into adulthood. Whether it was helping coach their sports or going with them to a baseball or basketball game, Mr. Stone loved the memories he made with his daughters. He was a loving husband and son, always tending to his wife and mother’s needs. Mr. Stone also had a very special connection with his firstborn grandson Carter, and was extremely proud not only of Carter, but his newest grandson Everett. He loved being a pawpaw to both of his grandsons. He was an avid pool player, bowler, and golfer. He was known as a “human map” and could provide directions anywhere from memory. Mr. Stone was truly one of a kind and his legacy will continue to be live on through the memories he made with family and friends.

Mr. Stone leaves behind his loving wife of forty-three years, Bonnie Stone of Horn Lake, MS; two daughters, Crystal Stone Shields (Robin) of Hernando, and Michelle Stone of Nashville, TN; mother, Myrtle Jane Stone of Southaven, MS; two brothers, Alan Stone (Linda Janet) of Southaven, and Horace Glenn Stone (Lori) of Hernando; three sisters, Ruby Jane Belew of Milan, TN, Rudy Nell Phillips (Winfred J.) of Hernando, and Patricia Ann Goodman (Martin) of Como, MS; one sister-in-law, Connie Cheek (Philip) of Marietta, GA; two grandsons, Carter Shields and Everett Shields both of Hernando.

He was preceded in death by his father, Doris Stone; and two brothers, Billie Joe Stone and John David “J.D.” Stone.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 30, 2018, beginning at 11:00 A.M. at Southaven Church of Christ (1483 Brookhaven Dr.; Southaven, MS 38671).
