Martha Card Huggins

Martha Card Huggins, 84, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020, in Nesbit, Mississippi. Interment will be in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home after a private graveside service.
Martha was born in Lambert, Mississippi and raised in Marks, Mississippi. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women and began her short teaching career in Quitman, Mississippi, where she met the superintendent’s son, Arthur, her future husband. Martha and Arthur moved to Southaven in 1963 and were very instrumental in its growth. After Arthur suffered a stroke at the age of 40, Martha worked tirelessly to prepare documentation for countless real estate closings held at Arthur’s law office. She built many lasting relationships with the DeSoto County business community. After Arthur’s death in 1998, Martha joined The Austin Law firm where she continued to provide outstanding service to the firm’s real estate clients until she retired at the age of 80, and only then because of health issues.
Martha was the consummate hostess having been blessed with the gift of hospitality. She enjoyed hosting parties in the early days in Southaven and then alongside her daughter, Joy, when she moved to Nesbit with Joy in 2014.
Above all else, Martha loved her children. Education was so important to her, and she worked many hours to ensure they could all fulfill their professional aspirations—a lawyer, a doctor, and two dentists.
A lifelong Methodist, Martha attended DeSoto Hills Baptist Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. A.W. and Mrs. Mayford Card, and her husband of 39 years Mr. Arthur E Huggins, Sr.
Survivors include her children: Holly Huggins Wenger and husband Scott of Charlotte, North Carolina; Arthur Eugene Huggins, Jr. and wife Marybeth of Arden, North Carolina; Joy F. Huggins of Nesbit, Mississippi;, and Ivy Huggins Webb and husband Luke of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by six grandchildren who were so precious to her: Julia and Laura Wenger, Molly and Gracie Huggins, and Michael and Holly Webb.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
