MARY BURKS SMITH, 66, was born October 19, 1949 and passed away January 13, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto in Southaven, MS. She is survived by three sons, John Lemeul “Bo” Smith and his wife, Debbie, James Marvin “Chopper” Smith, Jr. and his fiance, Natalie Tartera, and Robert Willis “Berto” Smith and his wife, Cassandra; two grandsons, whom she raised, Michael Smith and Jason Smith; her mother, Robbie Harkins; three sisters, Ninette McBride, Wanda Faye Jones, and Rhonda Kaye Menard; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, James M. Smith, Sr.; her father, Roy Burks; and one son, Jeremy Wayne Smith. Visitation will be Friday, January 22, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the service begins at 12 p.m. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m. at Memphis Memory Gardens in Memphis, TN.

June 10, 2017 at 5:29 pmI am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences. It breaks our hearts when death separates us from the ones we love so much. The Bible reminds us that God sees our pain and sorrow and has promised that soon death will be no more (Revelation 21:4). He will heal our broken hearts by resurrecting our precious loved ones to life again (John 5:28-29). Until then, I hope the memories of Mary and these promises from God comfort you now and in the days to come.
