Mr. Ralph “Sonny” Vearl Barker, Jr. July 16, 1946 - February 2, 2018

Mr. Ralph “Sonny” Vearl Barker, Jr., 71, of Southaven, MS, passed away on February 2, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.  He was born July 16, 1946 in Memphis, TN to Mr. Ralph Vearl Barker, Sr. and Mrs. Elizabeth Perkins Barker. He was a retired bricklayer, whom had worked in the construction field most of his adult life. It could be said that Mr. Barker was a jack of all trades, but he truly had mastered caulking and waterproofing during his career. In his spare time, Mr. Barker enjoyed metal working and working on vehicles in his garage, which he named Sonny’s Garage. He was an antique car enthusiast, and was a member of the Sugar Ditch Cruisers and Antique Car Club. The friends he made during his ride through life, quickly became a part of his family. Mr. Barker was able to contribute to many charities during his work with the car club, which included donating medical equipment to disabled children and adults, as well as, raising money for local women and adolescent girls’ organizations. He lived life to the fullest, with a personality that was selfless and fun-loving. Mr. Barker will forever be remembered for his willingness to help others in need, and the life-long advice he gave.

Mr. Barker is survived by his loving wife of thirty-four years, Connie Marie Barker; one daughter, Darlene Hamblen and her husband, Dale; one brother, Allen Barker of South Carolina; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Mr. Barker also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Ralph Vearl Barker, Sr. and Mrs. Elizabeth Perkins Barker.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2018, 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home (290 Goodman Rd E, Southaven, MS 38671) with the funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven. Pastor Patrick Chandler, Mr. Barker’s loving nephew, will officiate the services.
