On Thursday, October 20, 2022, Sylvia M. Strickland, loving mother of five children, passed away at the age of 86.
Sylvia was born on August 1, 1936 in Jacksonville, FL to Irving and Hazel Roberts. She was an Executive Assistant at Thomas & Betts in Southaven, MS until her retirement. Sylvia had a passion for horses and playing the piano. She was an adventurous woman who enjoyed travel, painting, bird watching, football, and NASCAR. She also liked camping, going to the beach, and hunting for rocks with her children.
Sylvia attended Southaven Church of the Nazarene where she played the piano for the services until moving to Loveland, OH to live with her daughter. She was a warm, generous, and compassionate woman who offered help to anyone in need. She is survived by her five children, Gayle Bibisi (Eddie), Diane Stroupe (Butch), Tracy Strickland (Judy), Carol Van Dress, and Glenda Coleman (Craig), as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Our comfort is knowing that she was met at the gates of heaven by her mother and father and today she is playing the piano for the Lord.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 6:00-8:00pm at Twin Oaks Memorial Garden and Funeral Home, 290 Goodman Road East, Southaven, MS 38671, and again on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm. Donations can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
