William Marsh (Butch) Barkley

January 10, 1955 — March 21, 2020

Butch Barkley, age 65, passed away peacefully and quietly in the comfort of his home, Saturday, March 21, 2020, after a short battle with esophageal cancer. Visitation will be Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 10:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am, at Southaven Church of Christ, 700 Church Rd. E., Southaven, MS.

Butch was a 1974 graduate of Southaven High School and past employee of John J. Campbell Roofing Company for 30+ years. Butch was a loving husband and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Butch was known for his beautiful smile, wearing wide bell-bottom Levi’s with his large cowboy belt buckle, doing 300+ crunches every day (he was very proud of his abs.) He loved watching old Gun Smoke episodes, playing Dominoes with his cherished friends, and gathering with old school friends.

Survivors include: his wife, Brenda Bell Barkley; stepchildren, Mitchell Boland (Christina), Jessica Gereau (Aaron); grandchildren, Danielle Parker, Brendan, Zelda, and Matthew Campbell, Jacob Dodson; mother Josephine Barkley; sisters, Joey Dylla (Richard), Lili Hare (Benny), Mary Baldwin (Charlie), Shawn Cheshier (Randy); brother, Richard Barkley; many other loved family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Marsh Barkley; son-in-law, Gary Campbell; nephew, Charlie Baldwin, Jr.; grandparents, Fellie Dupree and Edna Barkley, Patrick and Mary Mc Goldrick.

His family would like to honor him for his final act of kindness and selflessness to help mankind by donating his body to the Medical Education & Research Institute (MERI). His gift granted many physicians the opportunity to learn new surgical techniques and to conduct research that will greatly enhance the lives of others throughout the world. Some of the research included: orthopedic, the latest in surgical implantation of spinal cord stimulators, and the latest techniques in treating chronic pain.

In lieu of flowers, the family request any donations go to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital or any other charity of your choice.
